Katherine A. Thomas, BSN, CPHQ Vice President, Operations and Implementation |
Kathy Thomas has more than 27 years experience in both clinical and operational health care endeavors, including training, systems implementation, and consulting.
Thomas began her career as a Cardiac Intensive Care nurse, and also served as charge nurse, and Assistant Patient Care Coordinator. Her career also includes working as project liaison for the Alabama Quality Assurance Foundation, coordinating data collection, outpatient care reporting, and executing initiatives across the state on utilization of CQI principles and QI initiatives implemented by HCFA (now CMS).
After her tenure at AQAF, Thomas joined United Healthcare as Medical Management Trainer and Process Improvement Coordinator, with responsibility for orientation and training, managed care and call center processes, and integration of three sets of computer systems and staff for the company’s Birmingham office. She also served as project manager, opening a new UHC office in the Nashville area.
Thomas also served as the Clinical Implementation Specialist for Picis, an anesthesia and intensive care software package at Science Applications International Corporations (SAIC), training clinical resources on the software.
Prior to joining Proxsys, Thomas served as Manager of the Quality Resources department of UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham) Hospital. During her time with UABH the department won the Alabama Quality Award (2003, 2004, 2005), the Alabama Team Showcase Award (twice in 2003), and contributed to two successful JCAHO accreditation visits and the nursing department’s re-designation as a Magnet organization.
Thomas is a 1984 graduate of Samford University’s School of Nursing, in Birmingham, Alabama, and also received her BS in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She maintains CPHQ: Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, and has received Project Management training through RMC Project Management. She is also a member of Project Management Institute (PMI).
